Many weekends ago, I went to the Folk Village in Suwon. This is a great place that is only 20 minutes away by bus. I went alone, simply because Roberta had been once when her parents were down, and another time when I was busy doing something else. It was a ‘must see’ place for me. In the end, it was so worth it and probably one of the top 5 places I have seen in Korea. It was a great collection of traditional homes/ communities from different eras/ areas throughout Korea. To top it off, one is able to watch performances; a Horse show, tightrope walking, drumming, and my personal favorite, “See- saw Jumping Acrobatics. “See saw Jumping Acrobatics” is clearly a ‘meriaism’ as I don’t know the name for this talent but two girls stand on a large wooden see saw and jump till they propel one another to unbelievable heights where they perform ridiculous acrobatics and positions before hitting the see saw once again!!
To be honest, I know this is a weak post. It seems like forever ago, the things that stand out to me the most are
The acrobatic show
The beauty of the place amongst all the trees.
How small the houses were… short in height.
The easy bus ride (considering I am illiterate here)
The one trouble I had returning to Ansan was that I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get across the busy street in front of the subway station, I literally walked by some street vendors three times and I am sure they were thinking “Babo Waeguk” (Crazy foreigner) and then it struck me that if I ever wanted to reach the other side I needed to go underground to the metro (underground shopping)… ohh sometimes my little Sask-girl roots do shine through ☺
Check back soon,
I am finally trying to catch up!
