Talent Show

The talent show went off without a hitch in my mind. The only potentially disasterous thing was that I was kneeling in the front during the whole show saying everyone’s lines and directing action. Then when the show was finally over my legs had gone to sleep and I almost fell in front of all of the parents!

Needless to say all of my students made me proud and looked sooo cute. The other half of my kindy’s did really well too, but poor Michelle, my Korean teaching partner had a little more stress. They had sent the costumes a day early, we checked them, and everything was accounted for and then the next day when we arrived at school the costumes were gone! The company had taken them back … but luckily after many phone calls they were re-delivered just in time!

The outrageous glittery costumes were only the beginning of the nuttiness that accompanies a “Korean Talent Show.” Of course, by ‘talent show’ they really just mean performance… play, song, and often dance. Our school downsized the talent show and performed it in our school gym… but every other year (and all the other hagwons) put their shows on at huge auditoriums! My students did the play; 'Stone Soup', where two hungry foxes were walking through a forest meeting other animals. Yet none of the forest animals they ran into would share their food with them. They then got sneaky and decided to make “stone soup” but claimed it would taste better with the other animals' foods mixed in, hence becoming vegetable soup. We even had a song and dance about making the soup, as well as, wonderful props. My other class did ‘The Shoemakers and the Elves’ (who make the shoes for the poor shoemakers when they leave the shop)… it also had songs. Roberta did a “Brighton News’ theme… and talked about the past Brighton year complete with commercials. The funniest one though, was Roberta’s other half who did “The Sound of Music” but each of the kids told personal information… so one of the Vontrap kids, would speak and answer a question, such as how many brothers and sisters do you have... but then they would answer personally and say “I have 2”… so the play was not accurate/ or made any sense in the least. Maria, also had a sparkly nun costume!!! Hahaha At one point one of the boys in this play said ‘Teacher I am tired (from standing) and asked if he could sit down…ohhh dear!

Anyhoo here are the pics…
