We go on a field trip at Brighton once a month (every second tuesday). My first one was mediocre. We got on these yellow Brighton School buses and drove for about 45 minutes to Seoul Grand Park where the zoo is. On the bus ride there we (the teachers) had to put on yet another “hat” and be stewardesses handing out snack. (Sheesh!)
Once we arrived we all watched a Korean advertisement type of film for the Zoo which was totally ridiculous in itself because it showed all the lions, giraffes, hippos you would find at the zoo but our field trip only consisted of the petting zoo part of the complex!
The students fed the bunny’s lettuce, some donkey’s carrots, they threw some cracker things (food we had for snack the day before) at the monkeys, and some carrots to some goats. The goats were actually the most exciting. We were all locked in a square pen and then they let about five goats out and all the students were (not surprisingly) afraid so they started screaming while the goats hearded them around. The part of the whole trip that I found the most interesting was the fact that they had some dogs in some cages, as if they were zoo animals. I really do not understand this culture’s view on dogs. Many people have them as pets, and dress them up, paint their hair etc. (really take it to the max) and then others eat dog soup.... and then now there was that--- dogs in cages at a zoo! Strange!
Overall it was nice to be with my kindergartens outside of the school. I bonded with a lot more of students in individual ways--- I especially worked on some of the kids from the hell class--- so I am hoping things will improve :) And I am so excited to show the pics of them--- they truly are adorable! Roberta & My students are all mixed in the pics.
